Houston

Houston’s mix of international appeal and Southern charm have captured the interest of many.  The Energy Capital of the World and 4th largest city in the country, Houston has a diverse population and a strong economy.  Explore eclectic, culture-filled neighborhoods while also observing an impressive skyline of high-rise buildings that house 25 Fortune 500 companies.  There are also 1,500 acres of green space in downtown, including Discovery Green right next to the hotel that offers walking paths, dining options and a farmer’s market, and 300 miles of interconnected bike paths spread over 500 square miles. 

 

Houston is accessed by two international airports:  George Bush International Airport (IAH) just 23 miles north of downtown, and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) which is 7 miles south of downtown.  Once in Houston, you can get around easily using the METRORail and METRObus that offer convenient and accessible service throughout the downtown area for just $3 per day.

 

Houston is known for superb medical facilities, including 21 renowned hospitals and the #1 cancer center in the country.  It is also where the first human heart transplant was performed.

 

Popular to explore are the Museum Districts with 19 museums that cater to many interests.  These provide rich experiences in art, history, culture, nature, and science and are divided in four walkable zones, each with a group of museums.  Also, visit San Jacinto Monument & Museum for a full story on the history of the Texas battle for independence.

 

Food is another attraction!  Restaurants from casual to formal represent over 75 national cuisines, that include farm-to-table & vegan friendly restaurants, and more than 700 food trucks.

Houston has several distinct shopping areas with retail shops that run the gamut from vintage to high-end designer – and everything in between.  The Galleria Mall is Texas’ largest, and Houston’s most popular shopping center, offering a dynamic environment of shopping and signature eateries, as well as a plethora of amenities, including a full-size year-round ice rink, a state-of-the-art children’s play area, and 2 swimming pools!
